Read to the end for the last four steps!

1. Getting A Host
For one who's completely new to blogging, you'll be wondering what a host is.

As popularly defined, a host is like a house for your blog or website.

Hosts such as Blue host, Name cheap and so many others are out there but remember we're talking about starting a writing blog on a budget.

So you can use Blogger or WordPress who offer free hosting. Once you have enough in your pocket feel free to explore better hosts.

2. Blog Design

Starting book blogs

Blogger offers so many nice themes out there.

You can get this by logging in to your Blogger account, choosing the blog you want to work on, clicking on the theme button on the bottom left corner of the dashboard and customizing any theme that catches your eye.

To get the best, you have to choose a theme you feel relates to a writing blog(if you get what I mean)
Remember, you may want to consider getting a better one when you have more money but for now, this would do.

There are also free Blogger templates from Sora templates, feel free to go shopping without money!

3. Get A Blog Name
If you aren't blessed with creativity or drop-dead pickup lines you'll want to use a blog name generator for this.

It's always advisable to have some kind of related pun or metaphor for a blog name.

4. Design A Blog Logo
This will be way easier if you know the basics of designing.

You can also use apps like canva or lots of logo makers available out there.
PS: Use simple colors that relate to your theme colors.

5.  Labels And Bars
To give a good user experience, your writing blog has to be easily navigated.
This means that you must have the following categories on your writing blog.

> About Us
Your about us page should give the audience good information on who you are, your objectives, etc.

> Contact Us
Your email, social media link, or whatever can be embedded here.

Next, you must categorize your posts into different topics and they must appear on the menu bar too.

For example, for a writing or book blog, I can go with;
• Book Editors
• Book Reviews etc.

If you happen to be reading this but you just want to have a multi-niche blog, you can categorize your blog or site based on the different areas.

E.g
>Lifestyle
>News
>Entertainment...

6. Set up The Subscribe Or Follow Button
WordPress naturally gives you this button but you have to enable this in Blogger.

You can do this by logging in, clicking on the layout button, and on add a widget.

Some free sora Blogger templates also have this embedded in them but you can try out Mailchimp, Mailerlite, or even Sendinblue if you'll be considering sending out bulk email campaigns.

7. SEO And Content

How to start a writing blog without money

If you thought blogging was all about having an idea, putting it down on paper, and publishing it then you've got it wrong.

Yes, you'll need to have an idea but there are certain steps to take before publishing that idea.

Take it that I have an idea on writing a blog post about best quotes from great authors of all time.

I have to make my post go through the Search Engine Optimization(SEO) phase.

In SEO you have to consider the On-Page Optimization and Off-Page Optimization.

In our post about best quotes from great authors of all time, we'll need to make sure that the keyword 'Best Quotes' appears a reasonable number of times in that post entirely.

Note: Do not keyword stuff, Google is able to know what your content is about by naturally scanning through it.

In this same post, we'll have to link to blogs or websites of those authors or blogs that have a similar topic and also link to our old post but in this case, we may have none.

For off-page SEO, you'll need to build links and create unique content that naturally attracts backlinks.

Do this for all your posts and watch lots of Youtube videos from Neil Patel, Brian Dean, and The Income School to learn a lot more about SEO.

8. Publicity, Traffic, and Ranking
When SEO is well done, the result is good ranking on Google and even generally on Ahrefs or Alexa.

This ranking also comes with a reward of good organic traffic to your blog.

To gain traffic (which is the total amount of people visiting your writing blog) the social media way, you may have to share your posts links to all your social media accounts.

You can also ask your friends to help.

9. Relationship With Users
Make sure you reply to comments on your post. If you have some kind of pride or you just love snubbing others, sorry this won't work for you.

Answer their questions and reach out to them.

You may even want to create giveaways when your blog grows.

Conclusion
Hard work determines to an extent, the success of whatever you do.

Consistency is key, work hard, and keep posting.

One of your blog posts will be the one to bring you publicity!
